Daddy Dearest

Jim Morrison

"The Doors released their first single, "Break on Through (To the Other Side)", in November 1966. Their eponymous debut album ... followed in January 1967. While this should have been music to Jim’s family’s ears, he had cut ties with them two years before. When interviewed, Jim told the press his parents and siblings were dead or that he was an only child. His family didn’t even know Jim was in a band until brother Andy heard “Light My Fire”. Upon hearing the L.P., Jim's father wrote to him advising him "to give up any idea of singing or any connection with a music group because of what I consider to be a complete lack of talent in this direction."
