I was once walking in the sub-basement of the Surgery and Brain Research Pavilion of the University of Chicago Medical Center when I turned a corner and there, right in front of me, alone in the hallway, was a rhesus monkey in a torture chamber, totally immobilized, with electrodes on its body everywhere and its head cut open in several places.
