The mission of Christianity is to overcome the physical.

Rudolf Steiner:  "How will the Christ idea live in human beings in the future? In future times people will look back on our time, when human beings lived in physical bodies, just as people of the post-Atlantean age now look back on Atlantean times when human beings were still living with the gods. They will feel that they have gained victory over everything experienced in the physical body. When they then rise again to the spiritual plane, they will point down to the physical as something that has been overcome. This is what we should feel in a great prophetic act as we look to the miracle of Easter."
