Rudolf Steiner: "With the sound a [a as pronounced in father] we experience something like astonishment and wonder. In a certain sense we even take this sense of wonder into our soul when we not only say a but ach [ch here pronounced as in the German or Scottish Loch. Ach is the German equivalent of the exclamation ah!]. Ach signifies: A — I feel wonder, and with the sound ch the sense of wonder goes right into me. And if I now put an m in front and say mach [German for make or do] the result is a kind of following of what awakened wonder in me as if it were approaching me step by step — mmm — until I am entirely within it."
